Judge, U.S. District Court, Northern District of Ohio
Nominated by Dwight D. Eisenhower on February 27, 1956, to a seat vacated by Emerich B. Freed. Confirmed by the Senate on March 28, 1956, and received commission on March 29, 1956. Service terminated on October 7, 1959, due to appointment to another judicial position.

Judge, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit
Nominated by Dwight D. Eisenhower on August 5, 1959, to a seat vacated by Florence Ellinwood Allen. Confirmed by the Senate on September 9, 1959, and received commission on September 10, 1959. Served as chief judge, 1963-1969. Assumed senior status on December 31, 1981. Service terminated on May 22, 1997, due to death.
