Nominated by Richard M. Nixon on October 13, 1971, to a seat vacated by Roy L. Stephenson. Confirmed by the Senate on October 28, 1971, and received commission on November 1, 1971. Served as chief judge, 1977-1985. Assumed senior status on April 30, 1986. Service terminated on August 12, 2010, due to death.
