Nominated by Lyndon B. Johnson on April 15, 1964, to a seat vacated by Ashton H. Williams. Confirmed by the Senate on April 30, 1964, and received commission on May 1, 1964. Service terminated on November 1, 1965, due to reassignment.

Judge, U.S. District Court, District of South Carolina
Reassigned on November 1, 1965, to a new seat authorized by 79 Stat. 951. Served as chief judge, 1980-1986. Assumed senior status on August 17, 1986. Service terminated on October 26, 1999, due to death.
