Nominated by Lyndon B. Johnson on August 16, 1966, to a new seat authorized by 80 Stat. 75. Confirmed by the Senate on October 20, 1966, and received commission on November 3, 1966. Service terminated on October 8, 1977, due to appointment to another judicial position.

Judge, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit
Nominated by Jimmy Carter on August 16, 1977, to a seat vacated by John Minor Wisdom. Confirmed by the Senate on September 16, 1977, and received commission on September 19, 1977. Assumed senior status on July 1, 1989. Service terminated on June 11, 1991, due to death.
