Judge, U.S. District Court, Western District of Missouri
Nominated by Franklin D. Roosevelt on March 12, 1945, to a seat vacated by Merrill E. Otis. Confirmed by the Senate on April 3, 1945, and received commission on April 7, 1945. Served as chief judge, 1959-1961. Service terminated on June 29, 1961, due to appointment to another judicial position.

Judge, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit
Nominated by John F. Kennedy on May 23, 1961, to a seat vacated by Archibald K. Gardner. Confirmed by the Senate on June 14, 1961, and received commission on June 15, 1961. Assumed senior status on April 16, 1965. Service terminated on March 2, 1967, due to death.
