Nominated by Jimmy Carter on March 15, 1979, to a new seat authorized by 92 Stat. 1629. Confirmed by the Senate on May 10, 1979, and received commission on May 11, 1979. Served as chief judge, 1985-1991. Assumed senior status on March 16, 1992. Service terminated on February 17, 2003, due to death.
