Nominated by Gerald Ford on June 18, 1976, to a seat vacated by Oliver J. Carter. Confirmed by the Senate on July 23, 1976, and received commission on July 23, 1976. Service terminated on March 31, 1980, due to appointment to another judicial position.

Judge, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit
Nominated by Jimmy Carter on October 11, 1979, to a new seat authorized by 92 Stat. 1629. Confirmed by the Senate on November 26, 1979, and received commission on November 27, 1979. Assumed senior status on January 15, 1996. Service terminated on November 12, 1997, due to death.
