Nominated by John F. Kennedy on June 4, 1963, to a seat vacated by John Donelson Martin, Sr. Confirmed by the Senate on June 28, 1963, and received commission on July 3, 1963. Served as chief judge, 1969-1979. Assumed senior status on January 15, 1979. Service terminated on August 3, 1985, due to death.
