Received a recess appointment from James Madison on June 19, 1815, to a seat vacated by Robert Morris; nominated to the same position by James Madison on January 8, 1816. Confirmed by the Senate on January 9, 1816, and received commission on January 16, 1816. Service terminated on September 17, 1826, due to death.
