Nominated by Franklin D. Roosevelt on March 19, 1943, to a new seat authorized by 56 Stat. 1092. Confirmed by the Senate on April 7, 1943, and received commission on April 16, 1943. Served as chief judge, 1948-1953. Assumed senior status due to certified disability on May 31, 1953. Service terminated on June 30, 1957, due to death.
