Nominated by Jimmy Carter on August 4, 1977, to a seat vacated by Earl E. Larson. Confirmed by the Senate on September 16, 1977, and received commission on September 19, 1977. Served as chief judge, 1992. Assumed senior status on October 1, 1992. Service terminated on May 3, 2005, due to death.
