Nominated by Harry S Truman on December 14, 1945, to a seat vacated by Thomas A. Murphree. Confirmed by the Senate on December 20, 1945, and received commission on January 3, 1946. Served as chief judge, 1953-1973. Assumed senior status on January 9, 1973. Service terminated on September 10, 2000, due to death.
