Judge, U.S. Circuit Courts for the Second Circuit
Received a recess appointment from Grover Cleveland on May 26, 1887, to a new seat authorized by 24 Stat. 492; nominated to the same position by Grover Cleveland on February 27, 1888. Confirmed by the Senate on February 28, 1888, and received commission on February 28, 1888. Service terminated on December 31, 1911, due to abolition of the court.

Assigned on June 16, 1891, to a new seat authorized by 26 Stat. 826. Service terminated on February 15, 1916, due to retirement.
