Nominated by Jimmy Carter on February 27, 1980, to a seat vacated by Bailey Brown. Confirmed by the Senate on May 9, 1980, and received commission on May 12, 1980. Served as chief judge, 1987-1994. Assumed senior status on May 16, 1995. Service terminated on February 22, 2006, due to death.
