Received a recess appointment from James Monroe on August 31, 1824, to a seat vacated by Theodorick Bland; nominated to the same position by James Monroe on December 16, 1824. Confirmed by the Senate on January 3, 1825, and received commission on January 3, 1825. Service terminated on April 1, 1836, due to resignation.
