Nominated by Calvin Coolidge on February 4, 1929, to a seat vacated by James W. McCarthy. Confirmed by the Senate on February 12, 1929, and received commission on February 12, 1929. Served as chief judge, 1948-1951. Assumed senior status on February 21, 1951. Service terminated on September 23, 1957, due to death.
