Nominated by Jimmy Carter on November 30, 1979, to a seat vacated by Noel Peter Fox. Confirmed by the Senate on December 20, 1979, and received commission on December 21, 1979. Served as chief judge, 1995-2001. Assumed senior status on September 1, 2005. Service terminated on February 17, 2015, due to death.
