Received a recess appointment from Harry S Truman on November 1, 1951, to a seat vacated by Alfred C. Coxe, Jr.; nominated to the same position by Harry S Truman on January 30, 1952. Confirmed by the Senate on April 7, 1952, and received commission on April 8, 1952. Served as chief judge, 1971-1980. Assumed senior status on November 1, 1994. Service terminated on August 19, 2000, due to death.
