Nominated by Franklin D. Roosevelt on June 15, 1936, to a new seat authorized by 49 Stat. 1491. Confirmed by the Senate on June 20, 1936, and received commission on June 22, 1936. Served as chief judge, 1956-1959. Assumed senior status on April 3, 1959. Service terminated on March 2, 1969, due to death.
