Nominated by Dwight D. Eisenhower on April 1, 1953, to a seat vacated by Robert Reasoner Nevin. Confirmed by the Senate on April 23, 1953, and received commission on April 23, 1953. Service terminated on July 28, 1959, due to appointment to another judicial position.

Judge, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit
Nominated by Dwight D. Eisenhower on February 17, 1959, to a seat vacated by Potter Stewart. Confirmed by the Senate on July 15, 1959, and received commission on July 18, 1959. Served as chief judge, 1962-1963. Assumed senior status on August 1, 1965. Service terminated on November 26, 1982, due to death.
