Received a recess appointment from Dwight D. Eisenhower on October 13, 1960, to a seat vacated by William T. McCarthy; nominated to the same position by Dwight D. Eisenhower on January 10, 1961. Confirmed by the Senate on August 9, 1961, and received commission on August 16, 1961. Served as chief judge, 1972-1986. Assumed senior status on October 17, 1986. Service terminated on October 6, 1993, due to death.
