Nominated by Jimmy Carter on February 23, 1979, to a new seat authorized by 92 Stat. 1629. Confirmed by the Senate on May 10, 1979, and received commission on May 11, 1979. Served as chief judge, 1992-1996. Assumed senior status on December 6, 1996. Service terminated on July 23, 1997, due to death.
