Before that, Judge Gómez was a federal prosecutor in the Office of the United States Attorney for the District of the Virgin Islands and the Office of the United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia. Prior to that, Chief Judge Gómez was in private practice with the law firms of Patton Boggs, LLP, in the District of Columbia, and Dudley, Topper & Feuerzeig in the Virgin Islands.

Judge Gomez received his Juris Doctorate from Harvard Law School and a Bachelor of Arts Degree from George Washington University.
