The EEOC's Charlotte office filed this suit on September 2, 1998 in the U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina, Spartanburg Division. The EEOC alleged that defendant Travelers' Petroleum violated Title VII by sexually harassing and retaliating against seven complainants. Further specifics about the allegations were unobtainable because the complaint was not available on PACER. The defendant filed a motion to dismiss. The motion was denied on April 19, 1999. Seven of the complainants intervened in the suit. A trial date was set for August 2, 1999 but postponed twice before the parties notified the court that a settlement had been reached. The consent decree was entered on November 30, 1999.

The defendant agreed in the consent decree to pay $170,000 to be divided amongst the complainants. The defendant also agreed to provide Title VII training for its employees, expunge the complainants' employment records and report to the EEOC every time one of its employees complains of sexual harassment.
