The EEOC's Philadelphia district office sued Simpson, Herbert & Associates, d/b/a/ Gemini Security, a national computer security firm, on September 28, 2005 in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey. The EEOC's complaint alleged that the defendant violated Title VII when it discriminated against numerous employees based on sex (female) by creating a hostile work environment. The defendant never answered the EEOC's complaint and the court entered a default judgment (on February 24, 2006). The case was closed following this default judgment, but the EEOC successfully motioned to have the case reopened to recover a monetary award, and on February 28, 2007, the Court granted the EEOC a sum of $50,000.
