Case Summary

The EEOC's Detroit district office sued Daimler Chrysler Corporation on September 29, 2003 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. The EEOC's complaint alleged that the defendant violated the Americans with Disabilities Act when it discriminated based on physical disability by failing to reasonably accommodate individuals for entry examinations and failing to hire them. The parties entered into a settlement agreement on February 18, 2005, which stipulated that the defendant would pay the complainants variable damages ($1000 to $15,000), allow the complainants to retake the examination and employ them if they pass, post a notice of compliance with the ADA, provide Title ADA training to its employees responsible for reasonably accommodating test-takers, and report compliance efforts with the consent decree to the EEOC.
