Case Summary

The Memphis District Office of the EEOC brought this action in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Tennessee, against Labor Ready, Inc. The complaint, filed in May 2003, alleged race discrimination in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964; specifically that Defendant had failed to promote African American employees to management positions, retaliated against certain employees for opposing such employment practices and constructively discharged an employee. We do not have access to the actual complaint in this case, so the information on its allegations comes from the settlement agreement.

The parties entered into a settlement agreement in August 2005 which required Defendant to pay a total of $347,500 to 8 charging parties, expunge the employment records of the charging parties, provide employment discrimination training to its supervisory employees and post a notice of its non-discrimination policy at its facility.
