The EEOC's Indianapolis district office sued U.S. Bell Corporation, a national telecommunications provider, on June 16, 2003 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Indiana. The EEOC's complaint is unavailable, however the four intervenors, who intervened in November 2003, alleged that U.S. Bell violated Title VII when it discriminated based on sex (female) by creating a hostile work environment and retaliated against the intervenors when it discharged them for their complaints. The defendant filed a motion for summary judgment against the EEOC and intervenors' complaints in March 2005, which was granted only on the claims of sexual harassment and retaliation, but not on the hostile work environment claim. The suit proceeded to trial, where the jury found for the defendants on August 23, 2005. The EEOC later appealed in October 2005, but dismissed the appeal in December 2005.
