Case Summary

The EEOC's Dallas district office sued Paradise Tan, Inc, a Texas-based corporation, in the U.S. District Court in the Northern District of Texas on February 26, 2001. The EEOC based its claim on Paradise Tan's violation of Title VII based on sexual discrimination (female) when it provided a hostile work environment, leading to the constructive discharge of four female employees. The five female employees affected by the discriminatory practices filed a motion to intervene in the suit on May 31, 2002 which was resolved with the settlement of the case. The parties settled out of court and the court entered a consent judgment on August 2, 2002, which enjoined the defendant from further discrimination, required the defendant to post a notice of compliance with Title VII, provide training for its management and senior staff at all stores and pay $175,000 in damages divided between the five intervenors and two other affected employees.
