The EEOC's Miami district office sued Dias Landscapes, Corporation on March 30, 2006 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida. The EEOC's complaint alleged that the defendant violated Title VII when it discriminated based on race (Black) and national origin (Haitian) by segregating its workforce and ultimately discharging its Haitian employees. The parties entered into a consent decree on December 15, 2006, which stipulated that the defendant would pay the complainants $150,000 in damages, post a notice of compliance with Title VII, provide Title VII training to its employees, draft and distribute a non-discrimination policy, report complaints of discrimination semiannually, and allow the EEOC to enter the defendant's premises to ensure compliance with the consent decree.
