In February 2005, the EEOC's Cleveland office filed this suit against Chris's CafÈ, Inc. in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio alleging discrimination based on sex in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The two charging parties in the case were formerly waitresses at Chris's CafÈ and alleged that they were subjected to a hostile and sexually charged work environment and constructively discharged. The EEOC asked the court for an injunction against the defendant and asked for monetary damages for one charging party. In March 2006 the parties agreed on a consent decree which was subsequently approved by the court. The decree provided for $4,000 to be paid to each complainant as well as an injunction against the defendant prohibiting them from discriminating on the basis of sex and from retaliating. In addition, the defendant agreed to institute equal employment opportunity training programs, post information regarding equal employment laws, and certify to the EEOC that it was complying with all provisions of the consent decree. The decree was to last for two years. The docket sheet doesn't show any further enforcement took place; the case was presumably closed in 2008.
