In August 2002, the Charlotte office of the EEOC brought this suit against Media Play Inc. and Musicland Group, Inc. (d/b/a Media Play, Inc) in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of North Carolina. The complaint alleged that the defendant subjected female employees to a hostile work environment because of their sex, in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The parties settled after engaging in court-ordered mediation and the case was dismissed in July 2003.
The settlement agreement required the defendant to pay the three claimants $2,500 each, provide training for current and newly hired supervisors, expunge the claimants' records and provide the claimants with neutral references.
