The Phoenix District Office filed this case in the U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona. The defendant was Arizona Paper Box Company, Inc., a packaging company. It was alleged that the employer created a hostile work environment for three employees of the Jehovah's Witness faith based on their religion, and that the employees were fired when they complained in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The lawsuit was filed in September 2003 and was resolved by consent decree in June 2004. The complainants, who did not intervene in the case, were awarded a total of $48,000 and a promise that any mention of the incidents would be expunged from their personnel files. In addition, the company had to provide annual training, post a notice, and make annual reports to the EEOC. The duration of the consent decree was two years.
