In September 2004, the Philadelphia District Office of the EEOC brought this lawsuit against Northwestern Human Services, Inc. in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. We do not have a copy of the complaint. Therefore, the exact allegations involved are unknown. However, it appears from the charging parties' complaint and from the Court Order granting intervention to a second group of charging parties that the complaint alleged that the defendant discriminated against the eight charging parties on the basis of national origin, African, in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 by terminating or constructively terminating the complainants because of their respective national origin. The charging parties intervened in the suit in October 2004 and August 2005. After discovery and pending a decision on defendant's motion for summary judgment, the parties settled in August 2006 through a consent decree. This decree required the defendant to: pay $600,000, to be divided among the eight charging parties, post notice of rights, and to provide training to all employees. Additionally, the decree prevents the defendant from discriminating, retaliating, or divulging information regarding this suit, to potential employers of the charging parties. The decree was to last for three years. The docket sheet doesn't show any further enforcement took place; the case was presumably closed in 2009.
