The Chicago District Office of the EEOC brought this suit against Bridgestone/Firestone North American Tire LLC in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois in September 2005. The complaint alleged race and national origin discrimination in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The complaint alleged that African American and Hispanic employees were subjected to different terms and conditions of employment and were subjected to a hostile work environment because of their race and national origin. It also alleged that one employee was discharged in retaliation for complaining about the discrimination. Settlement conferences began in January 2008, and the parties began working on a consent decree in March 2008. The case is ongoing in the district court as of 4/22/2008. The consent decree was submitted to the court on 5/21/2008.
