The Baltimore office of the EEOC brought this action in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland, against Carroll County Foods. The complaint, filed in June 2003, alleged sex discrimination in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, specifically that Defendant denied employment to the charging party and other female applicants, based on their sex. In December 2003 the EEOC filed for partial summary judgment and in January 2004, Defendant filed for summary judgment. The motions were denied, and granted in part, respectively, in April 2004, and in June 2004 the parties entered into a consent decree.
The decree, valid for three years, required Defendant to pay a total of $350,000 to the charging party and six other class members, provide EEO training for all current and newly hired employees, post an anti-discrimination notice at its facility, and report regularly to the EEOC about its compliance with the decree. Defendant was required to comply with the provisions of Title VII and was also enjoined from refusing to hire female applicants because of their sex and from utilizing disparate qualifications for male and female applicants.
The decree was entered in 2004 and scheduled to last 2007. No further docket entries exist, so the case is closed.
