The Cleveland Field Office of the EEOC brought this suit against Jeff Wyler Chevrolet (formerly known as Jeff Wyler Eastgate) and related car dealerships in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio in September 2003. The complaint alleged that the defendants failed to hire female applicants as car salespersons in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Three complainants intervened in the case. The defendants filed three motions to dismiss for failure to state a claim, and all of them were denied. The case was consolidated with another case for discovery purposes only. The parties settled by entry of a consent decree in April 2007. The defendants were required to pay the class of thirty-nine complainants a total of $2.3 million in backpay and compensatory damages and offer the complainants salesperson jobs. The defendant was also required to post a notice of employment rights; hold three Title VII training sessions; send semi-annual reports to the EEOC; and refrain from discrimination. The decree was to last for five years. The docket sheet doesn't show any further enforcement took place; the case was presumably closed in 2012.
