Case Summary

In May 2004 the Detroit District Office of the EEOC filed this lawsuit against Cardinal Country Pizza in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan alleging discrimination on the basis of gender, female, in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Specifically, the complaint alleged the defendants subjected two female employees to a sexually hostile work environment. Following some discovery, the parties settle the lawsuit in December 2005 through a consent decree.

The eighteen-month decree, containing anti-discrimination and retaliation provisions, required the defendants to: make compliance reports, post notice of employee rights, provide EEO training, and pay $24,000 to two complaining parties.
