In September 2003 the Dallas District Office of the EEOC brought this lawsuit against Southwestern Bell Telephone Company and SBC Communications, Inc. in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas alleging discrimination on the basis of sex in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Specifically, the complaint alleged that the defendant discriminated against the complainant, a pregnant female employee, by reassigning her duties. Following discovery and an unsuccessful motion for summary judgment by the defendant in December 2004, the case was tried by a jury in June 2005 with the jury returning a verdict in favor of the defendant. The court entered judgment for the defendant in June 2005, requiring the EEOC to pay $3,651.14 in costs.
