The EEOC's Seattle office filed this suit on September 27, 2002 in the U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon. The EEOC alleged that RSG Forest Products, Inc., doing business as Estacada Lumber Co., violated Title VII by subjecting employees to a sexually hostile work environment. One male complainant intervened in the suit. The defendant filed a motion to dismiss on November 7, 2002, but the motion was later withdrawn. The consent decree was entered into the record on May 27, 2003.
The defendant agreed to pay five complainants a total of $200,000. Four complainants received $45,000 while one received $20,000. The defendant also agreed to create an anti-discrimination policy and a complaint procedure. During the three-year consent decree, the defendant's managers would receive 6 hours of anti-discrimination training annually. The defendant was obligated to report to the EEOC regarding complaints of sexual harassment, general compliance, and training sessions.
