Case Summary

In September 2003, the Milwaukee (along with the Washington, D.C.) office of the EEOC brought this Title VII suit against the First Student Inc, a school bus service contract provider, in the U.S. District for the Southern District of Iowa. The complaint alleged that the defendant harassed the claimants and retaliated against the one of the claimants by discharging the claimant because of their race and national origin. The case settled by entry of a consent decree in October 2003.

The three year consent decree required the defendant to pay a sum of $145,000 to the claimants in damages, refrain from retaliation, discrimination and harassment, post notice, provide neutral references for the claimants, and allow the EEOC to review its compliance.
