The EEOC's Dallas office filed this suit on June 28, 2002 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas, Dallas Division. The EEOC alleged that defendant Bledsoe Dodge, LLC, also known as AutoNation Dodge, violated Title VII by creating a hostile work environment, refusing to promote, discharging, and retaliating against two black complainants because of their race. The defendant filed two motions for summary judgment that were denied. EEOC v. Bledsoe Dodge, LLC, No. Civ.A. 3:02 CV-1373, 2003 WL 23194357 (N.D. Texas Dec. 29, 2003). The case went to trial on January 14, 2004. The trial concluded on January 27, 2004 with the jury unable to reach a unanimous verdict. On February 25, 2004 the parties notified the court that a settlement had been reached. The settlement was the result of mediation. On April 1, 2004, the parties entered the consent decree. The defendant agreed to pay the complainants $20,000 each. The defendant also agreed to post notice of EEO laws, train all employees, and discipline managers who engaged in or allowed discrimination.
