Case Summary

In December 1998 the Chicago office of the EEOC brought this Title VII suit against Insurance Car Rentals, Inc et al in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. The complaint alleged that the defendant discriminated against the claimant (and others similarly situated) by failing to promote them because of their race (black). The claimant intervened in the EEOC's suit in April 1999. The defendant filed two motions for summary judgment in March 2000, but the case reach a settlement during a settlement conference in May 2000. The court entered a consent decree in July 2000.

The consent decree required the defendant to pay the claimants $110,000, refrain from discrimination and retaliation, provide EEO law training for certain employees, post notice, keep records of applicants and recommendations for the Branch Manager position, and give the EEOC reports every six month.
