Case Summary

In September 2004, the Seattle District Office of the EEOC brought this suit against RLS, Inc., d/b/a Sebo's Do-It-Center, in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington. In September 2004, the Seattle District Office of the EEOC brought this suit against RLS, Inc., d/b/a Sebo's Do-It-Center, in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington. The complaint alleged that the defendant subjected the charging party, a female employee, and other similarly situated female employees to a sexually hostile work environment in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, resulting in the constructive discharge of the charging party. The charging party intervened in the suit in January 2005. After a scheduling order, the parties participated in mediation in late August 2005 and settled through a consent decree in mid September.

The three-year decree prohibited the defendant from retaliating and required the defendant to: provide the charging party with a positive employment reference, impose appropriate discipline upon those who discriminate, appoint an EEO coordinator, revise its employee appraisal process to include evaluation of employees' commitment to equal employment opportunity, provide sexual harassment training for all its employees, report to the EEOC at specified intervals, and pay $120,000 to the charging party. The docket sheet does not show any further enforcement took place; the case was presumably closed in 2008.
