The EEOC's Memphis district office sued U-Haul International, Inc., d/b/a U-Haul Company of Tennessee on September 28, 2006 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee. The EEOC's complaint alleged that the defendant violated Title VII when it discriminated based on race (African American) by terminating the complainant's employment based on his race. The parties entered into a consent decree on June 22, 2007, which stipulated that the defendant would pay the complainant $35,000 in damages, post a notice of compliance with Title VII, and provide Title VII training to its managers at its Nashville, Tennessee store.
