On July 18, 2001, the Houston office of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission filed a lawsuit under Title VII against Starwood Hotel & Resort Worldwide, Inc., doing business as the Westin Galleria & Westin Oaks Hotels, in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas. The EEOC alleged that the defendants had violated the complainant's rights by discriminating against him on the basis of his national origin. We have no further information on the allegations made because we have no record of the complaint in this case.

On February 4, 2002, the parties proposed an agreed final order, which the district court adopted the next day. Under this order, the plaintiff voluntarily dismissed his claims in exchange for an unspecified amount of money. (The order said that it would be an amount that was "agreeable to all parties" but did not specify how much). The parties agreed to bear their own costs of litigation, and the court dismissed the case.
