In June 2004 the Denver and San Antonio offices of the EEOC brought this suit against AEP Energy Services, Inc. d/b/a American Electric Power in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas. In its complaint, the EEOC alleged that the defendant discharged a male employee because of his age in violation of the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA). The parties reached a settlement, and a settlement agreement was filed with the court in April 2005. In the agreement, the charging party was awarded $80,000.00. The defendant was required to post notice of ADEA rights in its Austin, TX facility and to provide training on the ADEA for its employees.
