Case Summary

In September 2002, the EEOC district office in Birmingham, Alabama brought this suit against the Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center, a general health care facility, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama. The complaint states that a former male employee alleged that the defendant refused to accommodate his religious beliefs - cannot work on Sundays - and promptly fired him in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Eighteen days after the defense moved for dismissal, the parties stipulated to a voluntary dismissal in late December 2002. The Court dismissed the case without prejudice on 30 December 2002.
