Case Summary

The Baltimore office of the EEOC brought this action in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland, against Ferris, Baker Watts, Inc. The complaint, filed in March 2002, alleged sex discrimination in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, specifically that the Defendant had retaliated against the charging party by discharging her in response to her complaints about sexual harassment. The parties entered into a consent decree in January 2003 which was valid for 3 years.

The decree required Defendant to pay the charging party $35,000 and provide her with a neutral employment reference, provide anti-discrimination training for its employees, post and distribute a notice of non-discrimination at its facility, and report to the EEOC every 18 months about any internal complaints of retaliation that had occurred during the time period. Defendant was also enjoined from retaliating against its employees in violation of Title VII.
