Case Summary

In September 2005, the Chicago District Office of the EEOC brought this suit against Ranger Enterprises Inc. and Reopco, Inc. in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois alleging discrimination on the basis of religion in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Specifically, the complaint alleged that the defendant terminated the charging party because of her religion, Non-Christian/Jewish, and retaliated against her for her resistance of religious overtures.

The charging party intervened in the suit in December 2005. The parties participated in several settlement conferences in February, March, and May 2006. In July 2006, the parties finally settled through a consent decree.

The two-year decree, containing non-discrimination and non-retaliation clauses, required the defendant to: provide the charging party with a neutral employment reference, post a notice of the consent decree, report to the EEOC at specified intervals, maintain all records relating to complaints of religious discrimination, and pay $30,000.

The docket sheet does not show any further enforcement; the case was presumably closed in 2008.
